Volunteer Information Pack
Welcome to Tanzania! As you embark on your journey to volunteer with us, here’s everything you need to know to make your experience enriching and rewarding:
Qualifications and Eligibility
No specific qualifications are required to volunteer with us. Whether you’re a journalist, photographer, teacher, medical professional, or simply someone with a big heart and a desire to make a difference, you’re welcome to join us. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, but younger participants can join alongside their parents or guardians.
Types of Work
We offer a diverse range of volunteer opportunities tailored to your experience, qualifications, and interests. From grassroots development initiatives to cultural programs, medical projects, and environmental conservation efforts, there’s something for everyone. Volunteers may also assist with building projects, organizing sports and holiday activities for children, and more.
Duration and Hours
The duration of your volunteer experience can be customized to fit your schedule and budget. We encourage volunteers to spend an extended period to maximize their impact and gain a deeper understanding of the local community. Work hours vary depending on the project and will be negotiated during the application process.
Accommodation
Volunteer accommodation options range from economy to luxury, accommodating various budgets and preferences. We can also arrange cultural accommodations such as staying in Maasai bomas or with local families to enhance your cultural experience.
Cost of Living
The cost of living in Tanzania varies based on individual preferences. A budget of approximately $500 per week per person is recommended to cover basic essentials. This does not include safari or entertainment costs.
Visa, Vaccinations, and Insurance
Short-term volunteers (up to 3 months) can obtain a tourist visa, while long-term volunteers will require a volunteer visa. Visa inquiries should be directed to the Tanzanian embassy. Vaccination requirements depend on travel plans, and all volunteers must have travel and health insurance for the duration of their service.
Additional Information
Long-term volunteers may find it beneficial to maintain access to their home bank account, as opening a Tanzanian bank account can be challenging. Our partner organizations are non-religious, and volunteers are expected to respect the values and standards set by the host organization.
Extra Offerings for Volunteers
As a bonus, volunteers enjoy discounted rates for experiences such as climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and visiting national parks like Lake Manyara, Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti. Additionally, there are exciting adventures like walking safaris and cultural experiences available at discounted rates.
